“The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” John 3.8
—————> BE UNPREDICTABLE
Children, Children have this down….for the most part. When you give them the chance, they just follow the wind.
There was this guy named Nicodemus. You see this Nic guy was a Pharisee, a religious leader. A leader of the leaders in fact, yet he came to Jesus at night, as to not be seen by anyone. He had to keep appearances and not let anyone know he was actually interested in this crazy Jesus guy and His teachings. None the less he came to Jesus because he saw that God was with Him and he was intrigued.
So Nic comes to Jesus and we get a glimpse of their conversation.
— Eternal life— BELIEVE— Heavenly things — LIGHT coming into the world (Jn 3:19) — TRUTH
These words and themes that Jesus talks about are some of His most famous:
BE UNPREDICTABLE
BE born again
Come into the light
Eternity
Sometimes Jesus was unpredictable, obscure, outlandish.
Yet the FREEDOM HE describes here is amazing!!
The FREEDOM of this GOSPEL.
It dose not fit into any religious structure we create.
(Yes, we create these structures because it is our best attempt to follow Him, but sometimes the structures get in the way… just think of Nicodemus, his religious structure was failing him. He saw something in Jesus that was drawing him to seek more — to ask more questions.)
When you think of a “Christian” today what is the first thing that comes to mind? Is it someone who is “blown by the wind”?
I used to have a traveling existence that felt like this. International travel at the whim of the SPIRIT. I still travel, but it is more calculated and precise these days. Nothing wrong with that, but I long to keep my spirit FREE. Keep my spirit blowing in the wind. FREE.
FREE like a child.
To be “unpredictable”
Free like a child to LOVE.
To LOVE and BE LOVED.
The ability to BE LOVED is one of a child’s best abilities. They know how to accept love from a parent. Yes, sometimes it does not seem to be so, but when they are scared or frightened, they know right where to go for safety.
May you FIND THE WIND AGAIN. It is OK not to have it all figured out each and every day. FREEDOM is WAITING.
* side note — all kid analogies / stories are usually in the context of my current learning school as a parent of a 15 month old little lady
** please don’t think I am saying to throw all religious structures to the side — the key is to not let them get in the way – they were/are meant to aid in drawing us closer to the freedom we are all seeking
*** side side side note — on the workout front — today was a trip to the chiropractor, hopefully the back will be ready for some more physical action soon.
